With an identical pair of wingbacks, Julie needed to learn this specific upholstery process. With 1:1 mobile workshops, she completed the first one and then did the second all by herself. She's still learning but now doing more upholstery to complement her soft furnishings enterprise.
Julie is now taking on small upholstery commissions for friends and existing customers..........she's confident in her work, but knows she can contact us for support.
Hilary had dabbled in upholstery many years ago....she was inspired to start again when sister Sarah decided her Parker Knoll Wingback needed some TLC. They are now well on the way to reviving two lovely old wingback armchairs.
The mobile workshops mean that Willow and Isis don't have to be left home alone whilst the sisters learn upholstery and create beautiful items of furniture that nobody loved anymore. Who wants to cart big chairs around anyway?!
When you tell family and friends that you're learning upholstery, the onslaught begins! "Can you just do this little chair for me?" This happened to Fiona, who after a few workshops with me, found herself upholstering old chairs for the family.
Fiona has produced some amazing pieces, having gained immense confidence from what she learnt at The Diss School of Upholstery and then from her own experiences.
Edward was a very capable and enthusiastic student. He and his wife wanted to change the leather covering on their two seater sofa.
With just a few 1:1 workshops with me, Edward's skills, loads of fabric and sheer determination, the transformation was amazing. I think Edward enjoyed learning how to make piping the most!
The leather that came off the sofa was put to good use by Edward, although he was kind enough to donate quite a bit to our fabric stock!
Having travelled some distance from Suffolk to attend an upholstery course, Wendy was delighted to find out about the mobile workshops we offer. After completing her first project her real desire was to take on an old chaise, starting from scratch.
Wendy stripped the chaise, fixed up the dodgy parts of the frame and then through several regular workshops, she learnt how to apply the webbing support, tie in the coil springs and everything else up to completion. The chaise was gifted to her son and daughter-in-law and I'm sure Wendy will be working on another fine piece of furniture soon!
Living in a beautiful part of North Norfolk, Charlie and Jenny contacted us for some upholstery tuition to liven up their set of dining chairs... they chose a very striking fabric to complement these ornate pieces.
Over two workshops at home, Charlie completed the upholstery on one carver chair and one standard seat...he then worked on the other four chairs alone, with the confidence he gained from us.
